NJveg Prior Events – 2019

Everyone is welcome at NJveg events:  vegan, vegetarian, or veg-curious!  Our events are open to the public, except when noted as members only.

The following is a listing of our previous events from 2019, for reference.


Holiday Potluck and Vegan Bake Sale

Join NJveg for a holiday potluck and a vegan bake sale to raise funds for a central NJ animal rescue or sanctuary (to be voted on at the event)!

Contributions for the bake sale are optional but welcome!  Please note that a bake sale contribution is in addition to your potluck contribution.  Please bring a non-dessert contribution for this potluck.  Microwaves and a refrigerator are available.

NJveg members: $3 ($8 family); Non-members: $6 ($15 family) (to cover venue rental).  Be green: get $1 off ($3 family) if you bring reusable place settings!  (We will have extras.)

Catered Gourmet Vegan Dinner

Join NJveg for a special 4-course vegan dinner, prepared by RCBCCAC students!  We’ve had very enjoyable meals here the last 9 semesters and are continuing our tradition this semester!  These dinners assure the students – future chefs – that providing vegan options is essential.  A gift of a vegan cookbook is made to each student as additional encouragement!

All-vegan menu:

  • Butternut Squash Soup with sweet potato, rosemary, pear
  • Caesar Salad, Chickpea fritter
  • Lentil and Quinoa Bolognese with Fresh Orecchiette
  • Cashew Cheesecake

NJveg members:  $27; Non-members:  $32; RCBC students:  $30, plus service fee.
(includes tax and soft drinks; an optional gratuity toward a student scholarship fund is extra)


Members-only Thanksliving Vegan Potluck and Game Party in Flemington

Volunteer Work Days at Goats of Anarchy
Saturday November 9 & 16, 10:30am-12:30pm

NJveg has scheduled 2 autumn volunteer work days at Goats of Anarchy (followed by a lunch outing – see below)!
See below for details.  All spots for 11/9 have been filled!  We will take names for a wait list.  As the sanctuary relies on volunteers and has a set work time, please be ready to commit to this, rain or shine!

GOA is an award-winning, vegan sanctuary for special-needs baby goats (along with other animal friends that we just have to help).  We are a registered charity (501c3) and all tax deductible donations go towards vet fees, food, shelter and prosthetics for the baby goats.  https://goatsofanarchy.com/

Volunteer time begins at 10:30am and ends at 12:30pm sharp on Saturdays only.  The farm closes promptly at 1pm.  Make sure you take all your belongings and get all your ‘selfies’ taken with the goats by that time.  Limit of 10 people.  We fully rely on the time you are willing to volunteer for GOA.  If you need to cancel, please give us ample time to fill your spot for that day.

There are lots of different tasks like cleaning and refilling water buckets, ‘mucking’ the goat pools and stalls, cleaning out the pigs, horses, donkey, pony stalls and the chicken coops.  And of course, a little fun sprinkled in there when the goats try to play with you!  From time to time there are other projects that you may be asked to accomplish as well.  Our resident caretakers will assist with cleaning assignments upon your arrival and you will be asked to complete and sign a Waiver Agreement.  This is a dirty job!  Prepare to work hard!  Please keep in mind that all volunteers are required to be 18 or older.  We do not provide visits or tours to GOA.

GOA is also looking for long-term, weekly, midweek volunteers.

5-course Gourmet Vegan Meal Catered by Lady and the Shallot

Lady and the Shallot is a completely vegan, gluten free, and nut free restaurant located inside the Trenton Farmers Market.  A 5-course gourmet meal has been put together by owners Francesca Avitto and Kate Wnek.  Menu:

  1. Appetizer:  Housemade Hummus; Toasted Flatbread; Garden Vegetable Variety
  2. Soup:  Cauliflower & Dill; Seasonal Apple
  3. Salad:  Roasted Beets; Lemon Tahini; Sweet Pickled Shallot
  4. Main:  Braised Portobello Mushrooms; Sautéed Greens, Garlic, Butter, and Herb Mash; Roasted Vegetable Sides
  5. Dessert:  Baked Seasonal Apples and Pears; Vanilla Ice Cream

Our dinner here in March was one of the highlights of the year, and drew raves.  One of our members called it the best meal he’s ever had!

NJveg members $40, non-members $45, plus service fee.

$5 from each ticket purchased will be donated to Goats of Anarchy (additional donations are welcome).  We raised a total of $225!  GoA is an award-winning, vegan sanctuary for special needs baby goats (along with other animal friends) in Hampton, NJ.   GoA is a registered charity (501c3) and all tax-deductible donations go toward vet fees, food, shelter, and prosthetics for the baby goats.

Lady and the Shallot is a restaurant located inside the Trenton Farmers Market.  The restaurant is a completely vegan, gluten free, and nut free space.  A 5-course gourmet meal is being put together by owners Francesca Avitto and Kate Wnek.  Menu includes: Crostini, Carrot Ginger Soup, Salad, Acorn Squash + Rice + Sides, Lemon Cake + Sorbet.

NJveg members $37, Non-members $40.  This is a joint event with Vegan in NJ.

$5 from each ticket purchased will be donated to The Chicken Refuge, a 501(c)(3) tax exempt non-profit charity in Whitehouse Station NJ, whose mission is to give chickens that need refuge a place to live out their natural lives happily and with dignity in a safe and loving environment.

Members-only New Year’s Day Potluck and Game Party
