NJveg, @vegnj had a last-minute volunteer work day on Sunday January 12, helping the vegan non-profit Marley Meadows Animal Sanctuary, @marleymeadowssanctuary prepare their new location in Egg Harbor Township. Most of the residents have moved in, and the remainder will be following soon! We worked on getting the cow boy (not cowboy) area ready, clearing a fence line and putting up the wire. The 91st in NJveg’s hiking/walking + vegan dining series was our annual New Year's Day hike. We started with an easy (though somewhat muddy) ~4 mile hike at Plainsboro Preserve (info, map, trail info). NJveg (@vegnj) had a volunteer work day combined with a hike, helping Unexpected Wildlife Refuge (@unexpected_wildlife_refuge) in Newfield on Thursday December 26. UWR is vegan-run non-profit safe place for wild animals and plants consisting of almost 800 acres. The Refuge has approximately 10 miles of trails to hike. It’s hunting season, so we patroled the perimeter trails, ensuring there were no encroaching hunters, and performed some light trail maintenance. Our prior meals here were amazing, among the highlights of the year, and drew raves – including from one NJveg member, “The best meal I’ve ever had!”

Rained out twice, the 3rd time was indeed the charm for this hike! The 88th in NJveg’s hiking/walking + vegan dining series was on Saturday November 9. We started with a moderately challenging, rocky, 2.6 mile hike, the Stairway to Heaven portion of the Appalachian Trail in Wawayanda State Park in Vernon Township. Afterward, we had vegan pizza at Tony’s Pizza & Pasta Restaurant in Hamburg, which has a separate very large vegetarian menu with a lot of vegan items. 📸 Steve, Shane, Grover
