NJveg Prior Events – 2025

Everyone is welcome at NJveg events:  vegan, vegetarian, or veg-curious!  Our events are open to the public, except when noted as members only.

The following is a listing of our previous events from 2025, for reference.


Volunteer Work Day at Runaway Farm – Ocean County
Sunday March 30, 10am

Join NJveg for a volunteer work day!  We’ll be helping the vegan non-profit micro-sanctuary Runaway Farm.  We highly recommend bringing a water bottle, bug spray, sunblock, work gloves, work boots, and clothes that can get dirty.  If you’d like to donate, you can do so at the sanctuary or online.

Age 16+ only.  Please sign up only if you are serious about attending and plan to attend for the full time.  If anything comes up and you need to cancel, let us know ASAP, so that we may fill your spot.  We’ve had a problem with last minute cancellations – don’t be that person!  The address will be provided privately to volunteers before the event.


Volunteer Work Day at Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge – Burlington County
Saturday March 29, 9:30am-1:30pm
4 Sawmill Rd, Medford, NJ 08055

Join NJveg for a volunteer work day!  We’ll be helping the non-profit Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge, which includes one of the largest wildlife rehabilitation hospitals in NJ.  It’s home to 50 native residents, and sees more than 7,000 wild animals each year.  Afterward, you can optionally hike their trails and visit the animals (a donation is required).  We highly recommend bringing a water bottle, bug spray, sunblock, work gloves, work boots, and clothes that can get dirty.  If you’d like to donate, you can do so at the sanctuary or online.

We’ll be working on the following:

  • Medium privacy fence project. dig and set posts, put up and secure fence panels.
  • Medium retaining wall securement. Finish a project started by other volunteers by drilling holes and securing a wooden set of small retaining walls.
  • Remaining projects may include trail maintenance, painting, leaf cleanup, or other.

Supervised children are welcome.  Please sign up only if you are serious about attending and plan to attend for the full time.  If anything comes up and you need to cancel, let us know ASAP, so that we may fill your spot.  We’ve had a problem with last minute cancellations – don’t be that person!


Beach Cleanup + Vegan Dining – Monmouth County

NJveg will be joining vegan-led Save Coastal Wildlife at Conaskunk Point (508 Edmunds Ave Union Beach, NJ 07735) for a beach cleanup (thanks to Beverly W for the suggestion!).  We’ll have lunch afterward (at about 12:30pm) at vegan restaurant Nature’s Plate Vegan Cafe & Juice Bar (15 Main St, Keyport, NJ 07735).


Educational Outreach Prep – Burlington County

Help NJveg prepare for educational outreach season.  We’ll be putting labels on and organizing literature, and taking inventory.  Dinner will be provided to volunteers!


Beach Cleanup + Vegan Dining

NJveg will be joining Surfrider Foundation at Cattus Island County Park (1170 Cattus Island Blvd, Toms River 08753) for a beach cleanup (thanks to Tom P for the suggestion!).  We’ll have lunch afterward (at about 1:30pm) at vegan-friendly restaurant Revolutionary Lounge & Cafe in Toms River (1256 Indian Head Rd, Toms River 08755).  Bring gloves and a grabber if you have one.


Educational Outreach – Lines on the Pines

NJveg will answer questions and provide free literature on the benefits of a plant-based life.  Come out for an hour, or the entire event.  Help spread the word that going vegan saves animals, protects the environment, and improves your health!  No experience is necessary.  We particularly need help setting up (at 10am) and packing up (to about 4:30pm).  Please let us know what times you are available.

The Cow Sanctuary.  We highly recommend bringing a water bottle, bug spray, sunblock, work gloves, work boots, and clothes that can get dirty.  If you’d like to donate, you can do so at the sanctuary or online.  Space is limited, adults only.  The address will be provided privately to volunteers before the event.


Vegan Dining (Eat for Impact) – Morris County

Activist Networking Event

Philly, come make friends, empower, recharge, and activate for animals! Join the fun with hosts: American Vegan Society, The Humane League, NJveg, Revolution Philadelphia, and Veggie Mijas. Learn more about local campaigns that are vegan with ahimsa. Network with like-minded individuals. Eat. Chat. Volunteer. There is no charge to attend this event, but donations are always welcome. Free snacks will be provided. Additional food will also be available for purchase.

NJveg will answer questions and provide free literature on the benefits of a plant-based life.  Come out for an hour, or the entire event.  Help spread the word that going vegan saves animals, protects the environment, and improves your health!  No experience is necessary.  We particularly need help setting up (at about 11:15am) and packing up (to about 5:30pm).  Please let us know what times you are available.  Consider going to the market, especially if you haven’t before, and say hello!  (But only RSVP if you’re volunteering.)

Hiking + Vegan Dining – Gloucester County

The 92nd in NJveg’s hiking/walking + vegan dining series will start with lunch at vegan restaurant The Gentle Giant Cafe (13 S Broadway @Holly Ave, Pitman 08071).  We’ll then head to Tall Pines State Reserve (info, trail map, 1705 Glassboro Rd, Sewell 08080, GPS coordinates 39°46’50.91″N, 75° 8’23.12″W) for an easy ~3.5 mile hike.

Join NJveg for a last minute volunteer work day to help out the vegan non-profit Marley Meadows Animal Sanctuary prepare their new location for the cow boys (not cowboys).  We highly recommend bringing boots as there’s a few inches of snow on the ground, plus the usual water bottle, bug spray, sunblock, work gloves, work boots, and clothes that can get dirty.  If you’d like to donate, you can do so at the sanctuary or online.  Children accompanied by parent welcome.  The address will be provided privately to volunteers before the event.


Hiking + Vegan Dining – Middlesex County

The 91st in NJveg’s hiking/walking + vegan dining series will be our annual New Year’s Day hike.  We’ll start with an easy ~4 mile hike at Plainsboro Preserve (infomap, trail info).  We’ll meet at the parking area, GPS coordinates 40°20’58.8″N 74°33’34.7″W.  Please arrive on time as we need to start promptly at noon.  We’re looking for suggestions for a vegan-friendly restaurant that will be open on the holiday.
