NJveg Prior Events – 2022

Everyone is welcome at NJveg events:  vegan, vegetarian, or veg-curious!  Our events are open to the public, except when noted as members only.

The following is a listing of our previous events from 2022, for reference.  Outreach, volunteer days, and dining events were restricted during the pandemic, but we still managed to have a lot of fun and safe activities!


Educational Outreach – Burlington County Earth Fair

NJveg will answer questions and provide free literature on the benefits of a plant-based diet.  We need volunteers for this and other outreach.  Come out for an hour, or the entire event.  Help spread the word that going vegan saves animals, protects the environment, and improves your health!  No experience is necessary.  We particularly need help setting up (at 9am) and packing up (to about 5:30pm).


Volunteer Work Day
Saturday June 25, 10am-2pm
Udder Chaos Farm Sanctuary, Wrightstown, NJ 08562

Join NJveg for a volunteer work day!  This is a joint event with Vegan in NJ.  We’ll be helping out the new vegan non-profit Udder Chaos Farm Sanctuary.  Bringing a water bottle, work gloves, work/rain boots, bug spray, and sunblock are highly recommended.  Lunch will be provided, so please bring a donation, or you can donate online.


Hiking/Walking + Dining – Mercer County
Friday June 24, 6:30pm
Lawrence-Hopewell Trail, Carter Rd, Hopewell NJ 08540

The 44th in our series will be our first evening hike, at the Mount Rose Preserve (info, GPS coordinates 40°21’45.1″N 74°44’16.0″W).  There are ~3 miles of trails.  As the trails were quite overgrown, we walked several miles on the adjacent segment of the Lawrence-Hopewell Trail instead.


Educational Outreach – Burlington Freedom Day

Members-Only Potluck Lawn Party

Join NJveg for a vegan potluck lawn party.  This event will be outdoors at a private home.  The bathroom will be available, along with the kitchen for heating food (masks, but no shoes when in the house).  NJveg members only; please contact us if you would like to bring your child; no pets.

Please bring your plate and utensils, and most importantly, a chair or blanket.  An extra chair would be appreciated as well.  We can go for a short hike along Lake Carnegie and the D&R Canal before or after eating.  Space is limited.  Review NJveg’s potluck guidelines.


Educational Outreach – NJ Annual LGBTQ+ Pride Festival

American Vegan Center – Veg History Walking Tour + Dining

Join us for a stop at AVS’s American Vegan Center, including a veg history walking tour!  An optional late lunch/early dinner at Soy Cafe, or grab-and-go from the center, follows.  Individual tickets normally cost $23, but we’ll get a significant group discount ($12 for NJveg members, $14 for non-members).


Maurice River Cruise + Dining

Join us for a scenic boat trip with Maurice River Cruises (29 Ware Ave, Millville, NJ 08332).  Captain Dave guarantees eagle sightings, and we’ll see osprey as well.  Optional pre-cruise dinner at Wildflower Earthly Vegan Fare (501 N High St, Village on High, Millville, NJ 08332).


Hiking/Walking + Dining – Essex County

South Mountain Reservation, Millburn NJ 07041

The 43rd in our series started with a hike in South Mountain Reservation.  We met at the southern end in Fairy Trail/Locust Grove Parking Area and took a ~6 mile loop to Hemlock Falls (info).  We finished up with takeout from all-vegan restaurant How Delish in West Orange.

Volunteer Work Day – Freedom Farm Animal Rescue

Join NJveg a volunteer work day!  This is a joint event with Vegan in NJ.  We’ll be traveling to Cumberland County to help out at the non-profit Freedom Farm Animal Rescue.  If you’d like to make a donation to Freedom Farm, you can do so in person or online.

Volunteer Work Day – Marley Meadows Animal Sanctuary

Join NJveg for a volunteer work day!  This is a joint event with Vegan in NJ.  We’ll be traveling to Cumberland County to help out at the vegan non-profit Marley Meadows Animal Sanctuary.  If you’d like to donate to Marley Meadows Sanctuary, you can do so at the sanctuary or online.

The 42nd in our series started with a picnic at Long Bridge Park (info) in Hainesport.  We then hiked ~2.5 miles.


Hiking + Vegan Market – Monmouth County

The 41st in our series started at Shark River Park (brochure) in Wall Township, which has 6 miles of trails.  We then headed over to Vegan in NJ’s Vegan Market (at American Legion Post #346, 21 Gully Rd) in Neptune.

The 40th in our series started at Echo Lake Park (map) in Mountainside, which has ~3 miles of trails.  We then headed over to Vegans of Seitan in Linden for dinner (some ate at the restaurant, others got takeout).


MeatOut Hiking + Dining – Burlington County

The 39th in our series started at the newly-opened vegan takeout restaurant The Fabulous Fig in Medford!  We then headed over to Historic Smithville Park (info) in Eastampton for a picnic lunch and ~4 miles of hiking.


Hiking + Dining – Somerset & Morris Counties

The 38th in our series started with a free, self-guided tour at The Raptor Trust (1390 White Bridge Rd, Millington, NJ 07946).  We then hiked ~5 miles at Lord Stirling Park Environmental Education Center (info, map) in Basking Ridge, and finished up with takeout from vegan, organic Fresh Press Juice Co. (Bernardsville Centre, 80 Morristown Rd, Bernardsville, NJ 07924).


Walking + Dining Ocean County
Saturday February 12, 1pm
Barnegat, Waretown, Manahawkin

The 37th in our series started with a walk on the Barnegat Branch Trail from Barnegat to Waretown (7 miles roundtrip), followed by takeout from all-vegan Living on The Veg (657 E Bay Ave. #3, Manahawkin, NJ 08050).


Hiking + Dining Middlesex County

The 36th in our series started with a hike of ~4 miles at the Thompson County Park in Monroe Township (info, more trail info here, here, and here), followed by takeout from Taco Rito in Hightstown.


Hiking + Dining Burlington County

Rancocas Nature Center, 794 Rancocas Rd, Westampton, NJ 08060

The 35th in our series (our 2nd annual New Year’s Day hike, postponed a day due to rain) started with a pre-hike picnic, with takeout from vegan-friendly Red Lion Diner in Southampton, or from home.  20 of us hiked ~2.5 miles each at the Rancocas Nature Center (info) and trails of the adjacent Rancocas State Park – north section.
