The 127th in NJveg’s (@vegnj) hiking/walking + vegan dining series was a joint event with the Veg Friends of South Jersey Heylo group on Saturday July 11. We started with an easy ~4.5 mile hike/walk on the southern half of the Elephant Swamp Trail in Elmer and Upper Pittsgrove, out-and-back. NJveg (NJveg) participated in a 5k run/hike fundraiser for the vegan nonprofit The Barnyard Sanctuary (The Barnyard Sanctuary in NJ) in Hope on Saturday June 27! This was the 125th in NJveg’s hiking/walking + vegan dining series. We opted to hike a 5k trail through the sanctuary. We got soaked in an unexpected steady rain (so we skipped the scheduled community picnic afterward), but still had a lot of fun and raised money for the sanctuary. NJveg (NJveg) had a volunteer work day helping the vegan nonprofit sanctuary Layla’s Rescue Ranch (Layla’s Rescue Ranch) in Pittsgrove on Saturday June 20. Join NJveg (NJveg) for a volunteer work day! We’ll be helping the vegan nonprofit sanctuary Layla’s Rescue Ranch (Layla’s Rescue Ranch) remove some bushes toxic to pigs, and more. We highly recommend bringing a water bottle, bug spray, sunblock, work gloves, work boots, and clothes that can get dirty. A vegan lunch will be provided. If you’d like to donate, you can do so at the sanctuary or online.Space is limited, children 8+ accompanied by a parent welcome. Please sign up only if you are serious about attending and plan to attend for the full time. If anything comes up and you need to cancel, let us know ASAP, so that we may fill your spot. We’ve had a problem with last minute cancellations – don’t be that person! The 123rd in NJveg’s (NJveg) hiking/walking + vegan dining seriesstarted with an easy ~3.5 mile walk/hike at Big Brook Park (521 Route520, Marlboro, NJ 07746) on Sunday June 14. Afterward, we had adelicious early dinner at the completely vegan Sri Krishna VeganBhojanashala (31 Wooleytown Rd, Morganville, NJ 07751).A note about the bird photo: We verified with several sources thatthis was a mockingbird fledgling learning to fly and should not bedisturbed. The parents would be watching (we could hear them) andfeed it if needed. Since it was at the edge of the trail and in realdanger of being stepped on, we placed some large sticks around it.When we returned later, this bird had flown!
