Hey folks! As some of us may have noticed, it has been oddly warm for the month of October-now nearing November. I think this is a great time for some reminders of how we can all collectively contribute to decreasing any impact of our carbon footprint on the environment. Of course, any small effort compounds when we collectively participate in these habits.
- Eat a Plant-Based Diet: Reducing meat and dairy consumption significantly lowers greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture.
- Reduce Food Waste: Plan meals, store food properly, and compost scraps to minimize waste that contributes to landfill methane emissions.
- Use Public Transport, Bike, or Walk: Reducing reliance on cars lowers fossil fuel use. Carpooling or using public transportation when possible also helps.
- Switch to Renewable Energy: If available, choose green energy providers for electricity or install solar panels on your home.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Limit single-use items, buy second hand or recycled products, and recycle as much as possible.
- Conserve Water: Use low-flow faucets, take shorter showers, and fix leaks. This conserves energy used in water treatment and heating.
- Buy Local and Seasonal Foods: Transporting food long distances generates emissions. Supporting local farms reduces transportation emissions.
- Avoid Fast Fashion: Opt for sustainable brands, buy fewer clothes, and care for them to last longer. This reduces emissions from manufacturing and transport.
- Unplug Devices: Electronics consume power even when off. Unplugging or using smart power strips cuts “phantom” energy use.
