The 91st in NJveg’s hiking/walking + vegan dining series was our annual New Year's Day hike. We started with an easy (though somewhat muddy) ~4 mile hike at Plainsboro Preserve (info, map, trail info). NJveg (@vegnj) had a volunteer work day combined with a hike, helping Unexpected Wildlife Refuge (@unexpected_wildlife_refuge) in Newfield on Thursday December 26. UWR is vegan-run non-profit safe place for wild animals and plants consisting of almost 800 acres. The Refuge has approximately 10 miles of trails to hike. It’s hunting season, so we patroled the perimeter trails, ensuring there were no encroaching hunters, and performed some light trail maintenance. After helping Old Fogey Farm (previous post), we headed over to the nearby vegan non-profit Marley Meadows Animal Sanctuary, @marleymeadowssanctuary to help get their new location ready by clearing an area for a chicken house.
